This peeper variant appears to have been infected by the plague bacterium, changing both its appearance and behavioural patterns. Enough of its body has been replaced by plagued flesh to designate it as a separate species.

This creature uses the heft, and momentum of it's forebody to glide through the water at an alarming pace, often appearing to swim backwards when observed.

Consumption of the flesh of this creature is not recommended and may lead to adverse and lethal side effects.
Observing this creature may reveal information surrounding the plague bacterium, designated "The Red Plague". Further study highly recommended.

概要 / Overview
カラー細菌を遥かに超える危険度を持つ新種病原体「レッド・プレイグ」を実装する大型MOD「The Red Plague」で登場する、ピーパーの変異体。
ピーパーがレッド・プレイグに感染すると、一定の確率でこの異形へと変異する。
かつての大きな瞳と小さな嘴を持つ愛嬌ある姿は失われ、代わりに大きく裂けた口と、そこから覗く鋭い牙と細長い舌を備えた悍ましい姿へと変貌する。
A mutated form of the Peeper that appears in The Red Plague, a large MOD that adds the Red Plague, a new pathogen far more dangerous than the Kharaa bacterium.
When a Peeper becomes infected by the Red Plague, it has a chance to mutate into this aberrant form.
Its once charming appearance, characterized by a large eye and a small beak, is lost. In its place, it develops a grotesque form with a gaping mouth, sharp teeth, and a long, slender tongue.

行動 / Behavior
プレイヤーを含む周囲のあらゆる生物に対して攻撃的に振る舞い、凶暴な性質を示す。与えるダメージこそ小さいものの、動きが非常に素早く、採取や建築などで静止している際に不意を突かれやすい。また、体力も大幅に増加しており、ナイフによる数回の攻撃では無力化できない点にも注意が必要である。
しかし、本種における最大の脅威はその攻撃性ではなく、ピーパーという重要な食料源が失われることである。レッド・プレイグに感染した個体は捕獲不可能となるため、健康なピーパーを確保したい場合はアクアリウムや大型水槽での飼育を推奨する。
It behaves aggressively toward every nearby creature, including the player, displaying a vicious nature. Although the damage it deals is low, it moves extremely quickly, making it easy to be caught off guard while standing still to gather resources or construct buildings. Its health has also been greatly increased, so it cannot be neutralized with only a few knife strikes.
However, the greatest threat posed by this species is not its aggression, but rather the loss of Peepers as an important food source. Individuals infected by the Red Plague cannot be caught, so keeping healthy Peepers in an Aquarium or Alien Containment is recommended.

余談 / Trivia
- レッド・プレイグに感染した個体を捕獲できないことは前述の通りだが、外界から隔離されているはずの水槽内でも、飼育中の個体に感染症状が現れる場合がある。おそらく、水槽内の個体を感染症状の発現対象から除外する処理が行われていないことが原因と考えられるが、意図された仕様か不具合かは不明。なお、感染症状が現れた後も水槽から取り出すことは可能であり、調理することもできる。
- As noted above, Mimic Peepers infected with the Red Plague cannot be caught. However, individuals already kept in an aquarium may still develop visible symptoms of infection, despite supposedly being isolated from the outside environment. This is likely because aquarium specimens are not excluded from the system that applies the infection symptoms, although it is unclear whether this is intentional or a bug. Even after developing these symptoms, the fish can still be removed from the aquarium and cooked.
