According to translated data, this facility was designed to develop defensive technologies for the alien Dead Zone Mapping Initiative — specifically, the Prototype vessel. The Prototype was to be protected from leviathan-class predators in the dead zone.
However, following a command issued by an alien researcher studying leviathan-class embryo study for the bacterium research project, of which the Dead Zone Mapping Initiative is a subsidiary, this facility’s goal was changed to researching and documenting the aggressive behaviours of leviathan-class organisms to ensure the safety of said researcher’s endeavours. Thus, this facility began preparations to collect a leviathan-class egg sample and study the aggressive behaviours of the egg’s parent in a controlled environment. 防衛技術研究施設は、4つの施設の中でも最大規模を誇る研究施設である。本施設は、地下に位置する複数の部屋から構成される内部エリアと、デッドゾーンに面したクレーターの崖から突出するメインエリアの、大きく二つの区画に分かれている。
メインエリアは真っ黒なクローキングフィールドによって完全に隠蔽されており、初期状態では施設外部から内部構造を観測することはできない。
施設への入口は、メインエリアから北方向へ約300m離れた海底に存在する。プロトタイプのシンボルが刻まれた赤く発光する巨大なゲートが設置されており、このゲートを通過すると、巨大な縦穴を下降する構造となっている。
縦穴の先には、空気で満たされた空間の奥に水没した細い通路が配置されている。この通路は酸素消費量が通常よりも高く設定されており、大容量酸素ボンベを装備していても酸素供給時間は約60秒に限られる。通路内部は曲がりくねった構造となっているため、進行方向を見失わないよう注意が必要である。
通路を抜けると地上の空間に到達し、そこから施設内部の分かれ道へと進入する。内部エリアには複数の区画が存在し、イオンリアクター試験施設へと通じる異星人のアーチと、メインエリアの制御に関わるデータターミナルが配置されている。
メインエリアは吹き抜け構造の球状空間となっており、中央のプラットフォームを取り囲むように、計5か所のプラットフォームが配置されている。プラットフォーム間の移動には、短距離テレポーテーション機能を持ったワープパッドを使用する。
The Defensive Technologies Research Facility is the largest of the four Prototype-related facilities. It is divided into two major sections: an internal area made up of multiple underground rooms, and a main area protruding from the crater wall facing the Dead Zone.
The main area is completely concealed by a pitch-black cloaking field. In its initial state, the facility’s internal structure cannot be observed from the outside.
The entrance to the facility is located on the seafloor approximately 300 meters north of the main area. A massive red-lit gate marked with the Prototype symbol stands there, and passing through it leads down a large vertical shaft.
Beyond the shaft is an air-filled space, with a narrow flooded passage located further inside. This passage is set to consume oxygen at a higher rate than normal, limiting available oxygen time to about 60 seconds even with a high-capacity tank equipped. Because the passage is winding, care should be taken not to lose track of the direction of travel.
After passing through the tunnel, the player reaches an air-filled area that leads deeper into the facility’s branching interior. The internal area contains multiple sections, including an alien arch connected to the Ion Reactor Testing Facility and a data terminal related to control of the main area.
The main area is a large spherical chamber with an open central space. Five platforms are arranged around the central platform, and movement between them is performed using warp pads with short-range teleportation functionality.
進行・目的 / Progression & Objectives
防衛技術研究施設へ侵入するためには、以下の三つの条件を満たす必要がある。
- イオンリアクター試験施設の破損箇所を修復済みであること
- 防衛施設タブレットを所持していること
- プロトタイプに搭乗した状態でゲートに接近すること
条件を満たしている場合、PDAが冒頭のアナウンスを再生し、施設入口のゲートが開放される。
施設内部の分かれ道に到達した時点では、メインエリアへ通じる巨大なゲートは封鎖されており、直接侵入することはできない。反対側のルートを進み、「防衛施設タブレット」を使用してエネルギーフィールドによる封鎖を解除すると、イオンリアクター試験施設へと通じるアーチが設置された部屋へ到達する。
この操作により、周囲の区画の封鎖も解除され、内部エリア全体の探索が可能となる。南側に位置するデータターミナルを起動すると、メインエリアのロックダウンが解除され、同時にクローキングフィールドも消失する。
再び分かれ道へ戻ることで、メインエリアへ通じる巨大なゲートが開放され、内部への侵入が可能となる。メインエリア内のデータターミナルをすべて確認することで、プロトタイプの自己防衛機能に関するアップグレードの設計図が解放される。
To enter the Defensive Technologies Research Facility, the following three conditions must be met:
- The damaged sections of the Ion Reactor Testing Facility must have been repaired.
- The Defense Facility Tablet must be in the player’s possession.
- The player must approach the gate while aboard the Prototype.
If these conditions are met, the PDA plays the opening announcement and the facility entrance gate opens.
Upon reaching the branching area inside the facility, the massive gate leading to the main area is still sealed, preventing direct entry. Taking the opposite route and using the “Defense Facility Tablet” to disable the energy-field barrier leads to a room containing an arch connected to the Ion Reactor Testing Facility.
This action also releases the lockdown on the surrounding sections, allowing the entire internal area to be explored. Activating the data terminal on the southern side disables the lockdown on the main area and causes the cloaking field to disappear.
Returning to the branching area opens the massive gate leading to the main area, allowing entry. Checking all data terminals inside the main area unlocks blueprints for upgrades related to the Prototype’s self-defense functions.

- 入手可能なデータバンクの記述から、本施設は「クレーター周囲の生態学的デッドゾーンに生息するリヴァイアサン級生物」に対する防衛技術の研究を目的として建設されたことが示唆されている。ここで言及されているリヴァイアサン級生命体が、ゴーストリヴァイアサンのような既知の生物を指しているのか、あるいは惑星規模に達する未知の頂点捕食者を意味しているのかについては不明である。
- The available databank entry suggests that this facility was built to research defensive technologies against “leviathan-class lifeforms inhabiting the ecological dead zone surrounding the crater.” It is unclear whether the leviathan-class lifeforms mentioned here refer to known creatures such as Ghost Leviathans, or to an unknown apex predator on a planetary scale.
