展開 What Happens Here

ワームの妨害を振り切り、デッドゾーンに位置する座標へたどり着いたプレイヤー。
しかし、プロトタイプの進行は止まらなかった。艦は進入口を封鎖し、
プレイヤーの操作を一切受け付けない自動航行システムへ移行する。

After breaking through the Wyrm’s interference, the player finally reaches the coordinates located in the Dead Zone.
However, the Prototype does not stop. The vessel seals its entrance
and switches to an autonomous navigation system that refuses all player input.

艦内アナウンスは、デッドゾーン・マッピング計画の開始が迫っていることを警告し、
進行の中止を繰り返し要請する。さらに、“自動システムではない何者か”もまた、
進行の中止を懇願する。

The onboard announcement warns that the Dead Zone Mapping Initiative is about to begin, repeatedly urging the vessel not to proceed.
At the same time, “something that is not the automated system”
also pleads for the journey to stop.

しかし、すでに自動航行を開始したプロトタイプに、その呼びかけは届かない。
プロトタイプはプレイヤーと“何者か”を乗せたまま、デッドゾーンの暗闇へと消えていく。

But the Prototype has already begun its automated voyage,
and those warnings no longer reach it.
Carrying both the player and that unknown presence within it, the Prototype disappears into the darkness of the Dead Zone.

それから1342日目。
プロトタイプの進路上には、いくつもの巨大な氷塊が現れ始める。
それは、艦が惑星の寒冷地帯へ接近したことを意味していた。

On day 1342.
Massive ice formations begin to appear along the Prototype’s path.
This indicates that the vessel has approached one of the planet’s polar regions.

やがて、艦は「サンクチュアリ・ゼロ」からの遭難信号を受信し、
発信源の調査へと任務を変更するところで、この物語は幕を閉じる。

Eventually, the vessel receives a distress signal from “Sanctuary Zero”
and updates its directive to investigate the source. There, the story comes to an end.

ストーリー上の意味 Story Significance

プロトタイプ管理施設の項で述べた通り、「デッドゾーン・マッピング計画」とは、
生態学的デッドゾーンにおいてエンザイム42を探索するための計画であり、
それを実行するために開発されたのが「プロトタイプ潜水艦」である。

As described in the Prototype Administrative Facility entry,
the “Dead Zone Mapping Initiative” was a project intended to search
the ecological Dead Zone for Enzyme 42.
The Prototype vessel was developed to carry out that mission.

この「デッドゾーン・マッピングサイト」は、目に見える構造物として存在する場所ではない。
おそらくは、該当海域へ進入したプロトタイプに対し、デッドゾーン探索の指令を送信、
あるいは再有効化するための領域として機能しているものと考えられる。

The “Dead Zone Mapping Site” does not appear to exist as a visible structure.
Rather, it likely functions as an area that transmits, or reactivates,
the Dead Zone exploration directive when the Prototype enters the designated waters.

しかし、現在のプロトタイプは、もはや単なるデッドゾーン調査船ではない。
その中にはプレイヤーが存在し、さらに、自らの目的を果たすために
精神を神経クラスターへ分断・圧縮し、プロトタイプのデータストレージへ意識を転送した
異星人個体「Or-Ion（オリオン）」も存在している。

However, the current Prototype is no longer merely a Dead Zone survey vessel.
The player is aboard it, and so is the alien individual “Or-Ion,”
who fragmented and compressed his mind into a neural cluster
and transferred his consciousness into the Prototype’s data storage to fulfill his own objective.

プロトタイプが本来の指令――エンザイム42を発見するため、いつ終わるとも知れない
デッドゾーン探索任務――へ回帰することは、オリオンの計画の失敗を意味する。
そして同時に、それはプレイヤーを生還不能な状況へ幽閉することでもある。

For the Prototype to return to its original directive — an endless search through the Dead Zone in pursuit of Enzyme 42 — means the failure of Or-Ion’s plan.
At the same time, it also traps the player in a situation from which survival is effectively impossible.

プレイヤーとオリオンを運ぶ方舟となるはずだったプロトタイプは、古い指令に取り込まれ、
暗黒の海を永遠に彷徨う牢獄と化した。

The Prototype, which should have served as an ark carrying both the player and Or-Ion,
is consumed by an old directive and becomes a prison wandering forever through the black sea.

クレジット後、任務開始から1342日目を迎えたプロトタイプが新たな目標地点として選ぶ
「サンクチュアリ・ゼロ」とは、『Subnautica: Below Zero』の舞台であるセクター・ゼロに存在する異星人のキャッシュであり、異星人個体「AL-AN」の意識を保管している
データハブが存在する場所である。

After the credits, on day 1342 of the mission, the Prototype selects “Sanctuary Zero” as its new destination.
This is an alien cache located in Sector Zero, the setting of Subnautica: Below Zero,
and contains the data hub where the consciousness of the alien individual “AL-AN” is stored.

MODストーリーでは、デッドゾーン・マッピング計画がAL-ANの行いをきっかけに
中止へ追い込まれた可能性が示唆されている。
そう考えるなら、かつて自らが意図せず停止させた計画の産物が、長い時を経て自分のもとを訪れるという、皮肉な結末とも解釈できる。

The MOD’s story suggests that the Dead Zone Mapping Initiative may have been suspended because of AL-AN’s actions.
If so, this ending can be read as an ironic conclusion:
the product of a project he once unintentionally brought to a halt finally reaches him after a vast passage of time.
